How brightly does the lighthouse project shine?

The transformation of the university campus on Flandernstraße is not only one of Esslingen’s largest construction projects in the coming years; it also has the potential to become a shining example of how a building complex dating from the 1960s can be transformed into a distinctive residential neighbourhood in a way that is both climate-friendly and environmentally sustainable.

In a series of short presentations, we will outline the developments to date and present the urban development framework plan recently approved by the local council. We will then discuss with First Mayor Ingo Rust how the ambitious goals of the competition design can be realised despite financial constraints, technical challenges and the crisis in the housing sector.
