HUB:itat is an initiative at the intersection of aesthetic, cultural and architectural education and education for sustainable development. Guided by the the concept of habitat and the question of how we live together and create future-fit living environments, it connects building culture, education and a culture of relationships.

At its heart is the active participation of children and young people. They are invited to contribute their perspectives, needs and ideas, shape their living environments, and experience that their actions can make a difference. HUB:itat’s participatory and artistic-practical approach fosters self-efficacy, design competence, problem-solving skills and participation.

A particular focus lies on participatory building and design projects. Young people receive practical guidance as they develop and implement their own ideas.

HUB:itat combines expertise in art, straw-bale construction, earth building and creative pedagogy. This interdisciplinary approach brings together art and craft, individual expression and collective action. Ecological and circular building methods are not only taught but made directly tangible.

Formats range from workshops and project days to longer-term support for participatory projects. They create spaces where children and young people can develop their own positions, make decisions together, experiment and turn ideas into practice.

In this way, HUB:itat contributes to a vibrant culture of relationships, participation and design, empowering young people to actively shape their living environments – now and in the future.
