On 11 September, as part of European Action Week 2026, non-profit organisation Ubani organised the conference “Porous Body of Tbilisi: Courtyards at Risk and the Future of Urban Commons” at the Design Institute.

The conference brought together urban designer Edouard Moreau, Berlin-based architects Victor Karovskiy and Anton Gorlenko, and architect James O’Brien to explore the role of shared urban spaces through projects and practices across Germany, France, and Mexico. Nata Tatunashvili, co-founder of Ubani and founder of architecture studio NWDS, moderated the discussions. The speakers explored the urban fabric as a living system that supports collective life, social interaction, cultural memory, and shared urban experiences. Through diverse perspectives and practices, the discussions reflected on the importance of shared urban spaces and their role in shaping more inclusive urban development.

The conference is part of the broader research project "Ezologia — Porous Body of Tbilisi," which studies the Tbilisian Courtyard and was initiated by Ubani, together with NWDS.
