Degrowth Romania

We are a young degrowth collective – the first one in Romania – comprised of experienced individuals with backgrounds in environmental sciences, architecture, psychology, journalism, IT, economics, urban studies, ecology and biology. We are active in multiple organisations across the country, but most of our group currently lives in Cluj-Napoca, where we have a considerable network of fellow activists, researchers, organisers and other professionals open to engage in new ways of building solidarity. Furthermore, three of us are alumni of the Degrowth Master program from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and are fairly well connected to the international degrowth community.

Through our wide range of community initiatives and professional endeavours both as a collective and individually in our respective organisations, we seek to challenge and dismantle existing structures built on and reproducing exploitation, extractivism, oppression and environmental degradation. We experiment with and explore if and how degrowth practices can drive the necessary transformation. We are determined to collaborate, co-create and harness our community's collective radical imagination to build alternative visions of the future.
