Soundtrackcity

In a primarily visual culture, Amsterdam-based Soundtrackcity focuses on the auditory experience of the city. Sound is a fundamental part of the urban fabric. To a great extent, specific sounds determine the atmosphere and identity of a place. They influence people’s state of mind and sometimes even behaviour. Yet little attention is paid to the sound quality of cities and the auditory experience of these spaces often remains subconscious when designing public spaces.

Soundtrackcity's work can be situated within a lineage of artists, researchers and activists who aim to enlarge our understanding of auditory perception in regards to the urban experience. During previous works in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, Soundtrackcity hosted soundwalks, listening sessions, remote streams and participatory workshops in pursuit of answers to these questions.

Most recently, Soundtrackcity has initiated Sonic Placemaking Berlin, a project that specifically addresses architects, urban planners and designers to think of listening as a rich method to conceive and create sustainable and inclusive urban places.

A4F Berlin

Architects for Future Berlin is a community of architects, planners, students and other people working in or interested in the building sector. As part of the nationwide Architects for Future movement, we advocate for a socially and environmentally transformation of the construction industry.

The Berlin group brings together people who are committed to climate-friendly and resource-conscious building practices, with a particular focus on renovation, reuse and reducing demolition and new construction. Through workshops, exhibitions, public events, discussions and campaigns, we raise awareness and promote a more sustainable and future-oriented building culture in Berlin.
