Wizemann Areal
How can a former industrial site be transformed without losing its history and identity? A guided tour of the Wizemann-Areal explores how sufficiency-oriented refurbishment, new uses and a conscious approach to existing structures can work together.
Building on What Already Exists
How can existing buildings accommodate new uses while preserving their history?
Following the closure of the Zapata nightclub in 2013, the Wizemann-Areal was gradually transformed. With the creation of the Im Wizemann music venue and the systematic refurbishment of the site, it has developed into a place known far beyond Stuttgart – while retaining an atmosphere strongly shaped by its existing industrial architecture.
On this guided tour with Robi Wache Architekten, we explore how sufficiency-oriented design can combine ecological and economic requirements with new possibilities for use. Instead of erasing traces of the past, existing structures and industrial artefacts become the starting point for the site's ongoing transformation.
We begin at the Im Wizemann music venue, taking a look inside the hall, behind the scenes and into other parts of the building. From there, we continue to Hub Stuttgart, where we explore the transformation of the existing building from another perspective. The tour concludes with time for questions and discussion.
