Screening of: Broceliande, le pays des paillourtes

French-Language Screening and Debate

September 10 · 6:00–8:00 PM · ENSAB Main Amphitheatre

Small, round houses quietly appear along the edge of the forest. Their raw materials come from the abundance of the surrounding landscape. At the workshop of the designer who created these paillourtes, interns learn how to build them, while others gain hands-on experience through community building projects nearby.

For European Action Week, ENSAB will host a screening of the documentary Brocéliande, le pays des Paillourtes, followed by an open discussion exploring the ideas and practices presented in the film.

The discussion will question how approaches based on local materials, collective learning, self-construction and close relationships with the surrounding environment can inform architecture beyond the scale of individual buildings. How can these principles be adapted to larger-scale architectural and urban projects without losing the values and spirit that make them meaningful?

The event will offer a space to reflect on alternative ways of designing and building, and on how ecological and vernacular practices can contribute to the future of architecture.
