Raumkonflikte – Making Spatial Realities Visible

The photo project “Raumkonflikte: One Place – Many Spatial Realities” brings together different perspectives on the public spaces around Hamburg Central Station. This documentation follows the process from preparing the cameras to the resulting photographs.

01 Preparation

Analogue disposable cameras are numbered and prepared with a short set of instructions. The framework is deliberately kept open: there are no right or wrong subjects – what matters is each participant’s own perspective on urban space.

02 Distributing the cameras

The cameras reach people with different relationships to the area around Hamburg Central Station through different channels – personal contacts, an open call, local organisations and trusted intermediaries.

03 Taking photographs

As part of the European Action Week, participants document places, situations, objects and moments of their own choosing. They decide what is photographed – and therefore what becomes visible.

04 Results

After the cameras are returned, the analogue films are developed and digitised. The photographs are assigned to their respective cameras and brought together with additional perspectives from the participants.
