Heat Reflection
Reflective sails are used to create a space for discussion on Tempelhofer Feld: In a collaborative writing exercise, participants reflect on and read aloud memories of past summer heat waves, which are then complemented by graphics depicting the heat in the city. In this context, the focus is on finding solutions for the summers to come.
To kick off the event, we will collectively assemble a shaded space for discussions about past and future heat in the city on the vast expanse of Tempelhofer Feld. A nomadic, ephemeral structure in public space takes shape: the reflective sails are supported by bamboo poles, connected with ropes, and anchored to the concrete cores of stony Berlin. The moving fabric casts sunlight across the field, creating a beacon-like effect.
In its shade, together with our guests from the city’s diverse community, we will engage in a writing exercise to reflect on the oppressive heat of summer.
Next, participants are invited to read or recite what they’ve written and to view and discuss our graphically presented research on the urban climate.
At the end of the event, personal experiences and urban planning insights will come together in a shared narrative about the future of heat in a city better adapted to climate change.
Everyone is welcome – whether you're just curious, love to write, or are simply reflecting (on) the heat. We look forward to seeing you!
