The European Action Week marked an important milestone for the Green Classroom Stuttgart: for the first time, the site in Stuttgart’s Neckarpark became what it is gradually evolving into – an open place for learning, encounter and participation centred around future-oriented building.

With our mobile learning space w∞d.ii as a temporary starting point, the site came to life. Children, educators, neighbours and interested visitors were invited to explore the space, build together, discover materials and engage with topics such as reuse, material cycles and sustainable construction.

Activities such as “Building Without End” for kindergarten children, building and planting the first ten raised beds, the ZEN Garden of Building Materials and a guided tour of the neighbouring Wizemann site offered a first glimpse of the many ways learning and participation can take place here in the future.

Most importantly, the week demonstrated that a learning space does not have to be finished before learning can begin. Its very creation can become a shared learning process. This is at the heart of the Green Classroom: planning, reusing materials, building, using and eventually dismantling the space all become opportunities to explore, experiment and shape our built environment together.

The European Action Week was therefore more than a programme of individual events. It became a first real-life test for the Green Classroom – and the starting point for everything that will continue to grow and take shape on the site on the way to the IBA’27 Festival Year.
