Facade Insulation Workshop at the Wabenhaus: The First Step Toward a Green Facade
Facade Insulation Workshop at the Wabenhaus
Our vision for the Wabenhaus is a fully greened facade: a living building envelope that supports biodiversity and shows what a climate adapted retrofit can look like. Two facade fields are already stripped open, and they are where we take the first real step toward that vision.
This hands on workshop runs September 14-19, 2026 on site at Wir Bauen Zukunft, in coordination with the European Action Week. Seats are limited, so early applications are encouraged.
What we will do on the two open fields:
set up drainage so water is carried away and the construction stays dry
install wood fiber insulation, an ecological, recyclable alternative to mineral wool
weatherproof the exterior before winter work out a wildlife friendly detail together on site
This prototype is the bridge between vision and construction site. It lets us test real assembly details, measure material and time per square meter, and sharpen the plan for the roughly 400 square meters still ahead on the way to a fully green facade.
No prior construction experience is required. We welcome a mix of skill levels. Food and accomodation in tents or glamping tents will be provided if you join the whole time.
Registrations go to natalie@bee-onik.de. Spots are limited, so reach out early if you would like to join.
