With PARKRAUM+, the Architects for Future Berlin local group showed on Herrfurthstraße in Neukölln how a single parking space can be used differently. A converted trailer became a mobile parklet, temporarily transforming the parking space into a green, non-commercial place to sit, linger and meet others.

With seating, plants and a small book exchange, PARKRAUM+ invited residents, passers-by and anyone interested to experience the street from a different perspective. Instead of a parked car, the space became a small shared place in the middle of the neighbourhood.

The action raised practical questions that are central to the future of our cities: How should we distribute limited public space? What kinds of uses do our neighbourhoods need? And how can streets become not only spaces for traffic and parking, but also places for encounter, greenery and everyday life?

PARKRAUM+ is designed as a mobile and reusable format. The trailer can be used in different locations and makes visible, on a small scale, the potential of transforming a single parking space into something more.
