Drawing Phenomena (Architecture at the Threshold of Disappearance) is a digital visual publication examining buildings in Sofia that exist in states of neglect, transformation and gradual material loss.
The project brings together a selection of architectural drawings, photographs and layered studies from the ongoing series. Each work begins with an existing building and focuses on the marks produced: cracks, missing surfaces, exposed layers, fragments, additions, repairs and voids.
Rather than approaching these conditions simply as deterioration, the drawings treat them as evidence of an architecture that is continuously being rewritten. They ask what can be learned from observing buildings before intervention, renovation or disappearance, and how drawing can make the material and cultural value of the existing city more visible.
Presented digitally during the European Action Week, the publication connects specific conditions found in Sofia with a wider European discussion around preservation, repair, reuse and the socio-ecological transformation of the built environment.
This publication does not simply attempt to offer a single or multiple solutions for these buildings. Instead, it proposes observation as a starting point: recognising what remains, understanding the transformations already taking place, and questioning which forms of loss, repair and adaptation are worth recording.
